Misys Healthcare Systems Answers the Call for Interoperability with Latest Version of its EMR Solution

Launching at HIMSS 2006, Misys EMR® 8.0 Expands Interoperability, Access to Information and Patient Communication

RALEIGH, N.C. – (February 9, 2006) – Misys Healthcare Systems, a market leader in healthcare IT, today announced it will showcase the latest version of its EMR solution, Misys EMR® 8.0, at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference next week in San Diego, Calif.  When released this spring, Misys EMR 8.0 will greatly expand interoperability capabilities and support of healthcare communities by connecting physicians and patients through automated clinical and practice technology. The solution will integrate and operate seamlessly with other IT systems, enhancing medical practices’ revenue through improved billing practices and charge capture.

“As national healthcare initiatives like consumer-directed health and pay-for-performance models become more prevalent, practices need solutions that embrace the latest interoperability standards,” said Dr. Joel N. Diamond, medical director of Diamond, Fera, and Associates, a family medicine practice outside of Pittsburgh, Pa. “With Misys EMR 8.0, Misys Healthcare Systems has once again listened to its customers and added functionality to its products which help physicians keep pace with today’s changing healthcare system at both local and national levels.”
Misys EMR 8.0 will provide medical practices with powerful tools to expand access to patients’ care information that is generated from outside their practice – thus improving the usability and value of the electronic medical record. Misys EMR 8.0 captures and stores this data through interfaces that allow for integration with a broad range of systems including Radiology Information Systems (RIS), Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), medical devices, transcription systems and other document repositories.
This release will also support clinical information sharing across the community to foster and improve patient care, reduce medical errors and ensure health information transportability. Included in this initiative is support for release of information via the Continuity of Care Record (CCR) and access to community-wide health information through Misys Connect™.  Designed for interoperability and embracing national standards from ASTM International and HL7, Misys EMR 8.0 enables patients’ electronic information to follow them as they move in and out of various care settings. This offers tremendous benefits for clinical efficiency and decision-making.
Misys EMR 8.0 also allows practices to take advantage of new revenue opportunities within the consumer-directed healthcare movement through connectivity to Misys PatientLink™, a patient Web portal to expand patient communications in a secure Web environment.  Misys PatientLink provides patients with a convenient way to engage with their provider in a virtual office visit, pay medical bills online, request an appointment and fill out or update registration information online.  Misys EMR 8.0 will integrate with Misys PatientLink allowing patient-entered clinical data collected prior to the visit to be reviewed by the physician when the patient is seen in the office.
“By providing fast access to patient data, Misys EMR 8.0 sets a new standard in interoperability for the physician practice,” said Rob Kill, president of the Physician Systems business for Misys Healthcare Systems. “Misys EMR provides an expansive array of opportunities for our customers to connect with other information systems to gain greater access to clinical data and subsequently drive greater value to the practice.  Better data helps practices operate more efficiently, ultimately saving time and money and delivering a higher level of patient care.”
Misys Healthcare Systems will exhibit Misys EMR 8.0 – as well as all other solutions in the Misys Optimum family of products – Feb. 12-16 at the 2006 HIMSS conference (Booth #721).  For more information about Misys Healthcare Systems and its activities at HIMSS 2006, visit www.misyshealthcare.com/press+room/HIMSS.htm.
