Misys Healthcare Systems Partners with Cardinal Health to Help Clients Achieve Closed Loop Medication Processes

Automated and Shared Intravenous Medication Status Improves Clinician Access to Patients’ Clinical Data

RALEIGH, N.C.– February 13, 2006 — Misys Healthcare Systems, a market leader in healthcare IT, today announced that it has entered into an Alaris® Gateway Partner Certifications Program agreement with Cardinal Health.  The agreement enables hospitals using Misys’ enterprise Electronic Health Records (EHR) solution, Misys CPR™, and Cardinal Health’s wireless smart infusion information system, the Alaris® Network, to transmit infusion status information, patient monitoring, alarm data and patient ID information from Alaris Servers® to Misys CPR via a dual access interface.

”Closed loop medication administration is a core clinical process that requires real time information from all point-of-care devices in order to maximize patient safety,” said Chris Callahan, director of product management at Misys Healthcare Systems.  “The integration between the Alaris® infusion systems and Misys CPR will enable intravenous (IV) medication infusion data to flow as the medication is administered into Misys CPR so that it can be acted upon by our advanced clinical decision support module.  This will result in more accurate reporting of the patient’s IV status and support our clients’ goals in achieving a closed loop medication management solution.”
Misys CPR allows caregivers to access a patient’s records and update the status of their intravenous medications––large volume and small volume IVs––electronically. Partnering with Cardinal Health will allow Misys CPR to accept a patient’s intravenous medication status from Alaris® infusion systems. Since the system will eliminate the current manual entry, caregiver efficiency is improved. More notably, automated updates reduce manual errors in reporting IV status thus improving overall patient safety.
"We welcome Misys Healthcare to the Alaris® Gateway Partner Certification Program, and look forward to Misys software engineers completing the Alaris® Gateway interface training”, said Dan Pettus, director of network application marketing for the Alaris® Products business unit of Cardinal Health. “The Alaris® Gateway provides the ability to automatically upload Alaris® System infusion information to Misys CPR, reducing transcription errors and enabling workflow efficiencies that allow clinicians to focus on patient care.”
Misys Healthcare Systems will exhibit Misys CPR with an Alaris® infusion system – as well as all other solutions in the Misys Optimum™ family of products – Feb. 12-16 at the 2006 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference in San Diego (Booth #721).   For more information about Misys Healthcare Systems and its activities at HIMSS 2006, visit www.misyshealthcare.com/press+room/HIMSS.htm.
