Misys Center For Community Health Leadership Accepting Grant Applications

Grant Program to Provide Resources for Implementation of EHRs, Community by Community

RALEIGH, N.C. –  The Misys Center for Community Health Leadership™ today announced that it is accepting applications from interested communities across the country for its grant program until December 31, 2006. The Misys Center was launched in June 2006 by Misys Healthcare Systems, a market leader in healthcare IT, to spearhead the widespread adoption of electronic health records (EHRs) at a local community level, where healthcare is actually delivered.  Local communities as well as regional healthcare organizations including hospitals, physician offices and home care agencies interested in sharing clinical data for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, including those that are not currently affiliated with Misys, are now eligible to submit applications.

“National healthcare IT adoption is an achievable goal, but one that must begin on a local level. This requires that local healthcare organizations are enabled with all of the appropriate resources to make the goal of community-wide data sharing a reality through EHRs and other solutions,” said Dallas Olson Jr., Executive Director of the Misys Center for Community Health Leadership.
The Misys Center addresses a growing need for local involvement in the development of healthcare IT connectivity and EHR adoption and connects expert advisors from the healthcare industry with community leaders to guide the implementation of healthcare IT. The grant program will begin the process of community healthcare connectivity on a local level. In addition to pledging a donation of up to $10 million in healthcare IT software to these grant recipients, the Misys Center has received support from Intel, with other partners currently in talks to further assist grant recipients in the successful installation, training and operation of these technologies.
“The Misys Center recognizes that simply providing technology to local communities is not going to solve the critical issues that surround healthcare IT adoption,” said Olson. “Through this grant program, we are also opening up an educational discussion based on Misys’ 27 years in the healthcare industry and giving local leaders the opportunity to expand their involvement in developing a truly interconnected healthcare community.”
The deadline to submit grant applications to the Misys Center for Community Health Leadership is December 31, 2006. Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to sharing clinical data between medical professionals in hospitals, physician offices and home care agencies for the purposes of delivering therapeutic and diagnostic care. The communities must be willing to track pre- and post-implementation data for the purposes of ROI case development and to work with Misys and members of the media to share the results of implementing the Misys EHR software.
