Misys Healthcare Systems Signs New Agreement with UK’s Largest NHS Trust, Leeds Teaching Hospitals
Tucson, Arizona, January 29, 2003 – Misys Healthcare Systems, a market leader in healthcare IT and part of Misys plc, today announced that it has signed a new, enterprise-wide agreement with the United Kingdom's largest NHS Trust, the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The agreement covers the deployment and software maintenance of the CoPathPlus® product from Misys anatomic pathology system and will service 10 hospitals across Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This NHS Trust chose the Misys solution to centralise their pathology information systems, optimize pathology department workflow and data entry efficiencies, and to meet their high usability, reporting, and functionality standards.
“Increased reporting requirements, cost pressures, and demand for consistent services across our expansive NHS Trust necessitated our need to implement a robust, scalable, and proven anatomic pathology system,” said Iain Banks, Laboratory Manager, Department of Histology and Molecular Pathology. “After reviewing several options, it was clear that CoPathPlus® from Misys best met our current and anticipated anatomic pathology information system requirements.”
"Misys Healthcare Systems is pleased to begin this new partnership with the United Kingdom’s largest NHS Trust," said Andrew Lawson, Misys Healthcare Systems Chief Operating Officer. "We look forward to working with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust to implement a truly world-class, enterprise-wide anatomic pathology system that will help them achieve their operational and clinical objectives."

About Leeds Teaching Hospitals
The NHS Trust was formed in 1998 when the two former acute Trusts in Leeds, St James's, and Seacroft University Hospitals and the United Leeds Teaching Hospitals, were merged. A single effective organization has been forged, taking the best from each, so that patients living in Leeds, Yorkshire, and beyond can look forward to receiving health care of the highest quality. More than 200,000 in patients were treated by the Trust during 2000-2001, which is over 12,000 more than the previous year. With nearly one million staff in the NHS as a whole, around 62 % are involved in direct patient care, clinical support, or laboratory roles and 38% are involved in support, building/engineering, clerical, or managerial roles.
The Trust has set itself many challenges for the next few years. The Government gave its backing last year for the Trust's multi-million pound plan to transform hospital services within Leeds which paves the way for major developments at the Trust's hospitals over the next five years.
